Turmeric, known as `ōlena in the Hawaiian culture, has also been used as a flavorful addition in Southern Asia and Middle Eastern cuisines as the distinctive flavor base of many curries and other traditional dishes. Current research is also looking at the health benefits of turmeric when included in the diet. Cassandra de Kramer will demonstrate several delicious recipes as she discusses the benefits of using turmeric in everyday cooking. She’ll also discuss the propagation and growth of turmeric, harvesting, storing and drying the root. Each student will receive a turmeric toot, and sample Cassandra’s delicious turmeric dishes. Class fee $25.
