Hawaiian Natural Dye Workshop

In this class led by Kumu Wesley Sen, students will learn to use basic plant and mineral dyes utilized in the Native Hawaiian culture. Some of these plants are also used in herbal medicine and in traditional cultural practices. Students will gather the roots, bark and fruits of different plants and process them. They will use the dyes to decorate a small Kapa purse and bracelet, which they will take home. Please bring garden gloves, dishwashing gloves and an apron, and wear clothes that can be stained. Class will be held at Lyon Arboretum;s Children’s Learning Center Facility. This class is sponsored by The Garden Club of Honolulu as part of the Stepping Stones Series. Class Cost: $40.
