India-40 and the Circle of Demons

July 25, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Mānoa Campus, John A. Burns Hall, Room 3012, 1601 East-West Road Add to Calendar

Please join us for a Book Talk with Peter S. Adler, Principal, ACCORD3.0 and former President and CEO, The Keystone Center.

In 1966 as the war in Vietnam intensified, 50 freshly minted college graduates were invited to train for a possible Peace Corps assignment to India. Of the 50 who began training in a Texas border-town called Zapata, only a handful – ‘The Dirty Dozen’ -- finished the two-year tour. India-40 and the Circle of Demons (Xlibris Publishing), part memoir and part creative non-fiction, recounts a life-changing journey in which death, disease, drugs and political crazies took a toll. “The true heart of this story,” says Adler, “is the rare journey people sometimes make deep into the soul of an entirely different civilization and as a result, find their own.”

Peter S. Adler is a planner, mediator, facilitator, and a principal in ACCORD3.0, a professional network of consultants specializing in foresight, strategy, and cooperative trouble-shooting. Prior to this he served as President and CEO of The Keystone Center for nine years. In 1967 and 1968, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in a village halfway between Mumbai and Goa. Adler is also the author of: “Beyond Paradise” (Oxbow Press, 1993), “Oxtail Soup” (Oxbow Press, 2001), and “Eye of the Storm Leadership” (RIS, 2008).
