Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy: Challenges and Opportunities

Please join us for this public seminar with Dr. Chien-fu (Jeff) Lin, President of the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research. He will present an overview of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, an initiative of President Tsai Ing-wen’s administration aimed at strengthening economic relations between Taiwan and the countries of Southeast and South Asia, Australia and New Zealand. His presentation will include updates on the economies of Southeast Asian countries and on cross-strait economic relations.

In addition to heading the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, Dr. Chien-fu Lin has chaired the Chinese Taipei Economic Cooperation Committee since 2015. From 2006-2017, he was the Associate Dean, Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, National Taiwan University. He has also served as the General Convener of the Taiwan Competitiveness Forum Association, President of the Chuang Hua Economic and Finance Association, and Member of the Committee of Economics and Finance, President’s Office, Taiwan. He holds an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of California, San Diego and a BA and MA in Economics from National Taiwan University.
