Yang Jing, pipa (Two Concerts)

World renowned pipa virtuoso Yang Jing visits Orvis Auditorium for two exciting concerts of new works. Combining her love for the millennium-old tradition of Chinese music with an innovative spirit of exploration, Yang Jing builds on a vast amalgam of musical history from both East and West to create a musical experience that transcends boundaries.

Concert 1

March 1 - Pipa and string quartet, featuring works by Takuma Itoh, Donald Womack, Yang Jing and others.

Joined by UH’s string faculty Joseph Stepec, Anna Womack, and I-Bei Lin, she will present works by UH composers, as well as her own music, including her award-winning modern pipa standard "Dance Along the Old Silk Road."

Concert 2

March 8 - Pipa with soprano and cello, featuring music by Thomas Osborne and world premieres by UH student composers.
