Dr. Mickey Weems, U H Manoa English Department, will explore how queer dance in the United States has influenced dance around the world and its connection to the Gay Liberation Movement in the 1970s. Why is queer dance relatively invisible and absent in formal dance departments? Dr. Weems has researched dance, religion, masculinity and queer communities, as well as biographies of key historical and contemporary figures.
