The UHM Department of Anthropology will be joining hundreds of programs across the country in celebrating Anthropology Day! The primary goal of Anthropology Day is to share the wonders of anthropology with the world around us. Join us for special lectures, an archaeology lab open house, and a pizza & movie night!
Schedule of Events:
9am to 10:30am: Ethics in Anthropology: The Darkness in El Dorado Controversy, lecture by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Leslie Sponsel. Dean Hall, Access Lounge, Rm. 5/6 (Bottom/Basement Level).
10:30am to 12:30pm: Meet the Anthropology Undergraduate Student Association (AUSA). Dean Hall, Bottom/Basement Level.
12:30pm to 1:30pm: Irrigation and Colluvial Slope Agriculture in a Windward Hawaiian Valley: Testing Assumptions of Sustainability in Hawaiian Agriculture, lecture by Dr. Patrick V. Kirch. Dean Hall, Access Lounge, Rm. 5/6
1:30pm to 2:30pm: From Angkor Borei to Angkor Wat and the LOMAP Artifact Collection at UHM, lecture by Dr. Miriam Stark. Dean Hall, Access Lounge, Rm. 5/6 (Bottom/Basement Level).
2pm to 3pm: Archaeology Lab Open House: Ceramic Collection from Angkor Borei, Cambodia on Display. Dean Hall Rm 203 (Note: Food, drinks & backpacks must be left outside of the laboratory)
3pm to 4pm: UHM Anthropology Colloquium Series Presents : The Socio-Ecology of Landscape Construction and Formation on Ta'u Island, American Samoa, lecture by Dr. Seth Quintus. Crawford Hall, Rm. 115 – Reception to follow.
5pm to 7pm: Anthropology themed Pizza & Movie night: Dean Hall, Access Lounge, Rm. 5/6 (Bottom/Basement Level).
