Sciences and the Sacred Seminar Series
April 7, 6:00pm - 7:30pmMānoa Campus, UH Manoa
We are re-igniting the Sciences and the Sacred Seminar Series! This semester, we will focus on Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Knowledge Stewardship and will again be hosted by the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant Ulana ʻIke Center of Excellence and the Biocultural Initiative of the Pacific. Over the course of four seminars, we will center conversations with Indigenous practitioners from continental and oceanic spaces in a knowledge-sharing exchange to advance kanaka ʻōiwi (Native Hawaiian) efforts towards data sovereignty. It is our hope that creating dialogue between kanaka ʻōiwi, allies and other Indigenous communities will lay the groundwork for collaborative partnerships within Hawaiʻi that are grounded in Indigenous data sovereignty principles. Our first seminar will feature Dr. Stephanie Russo Carroll (Assistant Professor of Public Health, the University of Arizona; Associate Director for the Native Nations Institute; Assistant Research Professor at the Udall Center) and Māui Hudson(Associate Professor and Director of Te Kotahi Research Institute at the University of Waikato; Co-Director of Local Contexts, the Veracity Lab, and ENRICH).
