Sciences and the Sacred Seminar Series

May 12, 5:00pm - 6:30pm
Mānoa Campus, UH Manoa Add to Calendar

We are re-igniting the Sciences and the Sacred Seminar Series this semester! We are focusing on Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Knowledge Stewardship, and will again be hosted by the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant Ulana ʻIke Center of Excellence and the Biocultural Initiative of the Pacific. Over the course of four seminars, we will center conversations with Indigenous practitioners from continental and oceanic spaces in a knowledge-sharing exchange to advance kanaka ʻōiwi (Native Hawaiian) efforts towards data sovereignty. It is our hope that creating dialogue between kanaka ʻōiwi, allies and other Indigenous communities will lay the groundwork for collaborative partnerships within Hawaiʻi that are grounded in Indigenous data sovereignty principles. We hope that you will register to attend and also help spread the word about the upcoming virtual series. Our third seminar features Kūhaʻo Zane, creative director of SigZane Designs and SZKaiao Studio, and president of the Edith Kanaka'ole Foundation; Keola Rapozo, creative director - fitted® / f.a.d.s. / and MakeReady© / Troptech™; Kari Kehau Noe, doctoral student and research assistant, Laboratory for Advanced Visualization and Applications (LAVA), University of Hawai'i at Mānoa; co-director, Create(x) Media Lab, University of Hawai'i West O'ahu; and Kamuela Enos, director of the Office of Indigenous Innovation at the University of Hawaiʻi will be moderating.
