Prof. Lawrence Repeta (former professor of Law at Meiji University) will discuss his new book, Japan's Prisoners of Conscience, which takes readers inside the criminal justice system, focusing on a case that raised fundamental questions about government authority to go to war, freedom of political speech, and treatment of criminal suspects. UHM Prof. Emerita Patricia Steinhoff will serve as discussant. Co-sponsored with the William S. Richardson School of Law Pacific-Asian Legal Studies Program.
