Please join the History Forum for Prof. Vimalin Rujivacharakul's "The Stupa of Guldarra and Afghanistan's Histories -- Architecture, Historical Evidence, and the Archaeology of Knowledge Constructs." This talk investigates the multiple histories of the Stupa of Guldarra in Afghanistan whose material evidence has suggested different dates of origin. The audience will be invited to examine the lineage of the stupa’s knowledge constructs and how the stupa’s history has been interpreted variably by archaeologists, historians, preservationists, and treasure hunters. Their conflicting interpretations, in turn, present an opportunity to reframe our understanding of connections between Buddhism and other religions in pre-Islamic monuments of Afghanistan. Dr. Rujivacharakul is Professor of Art History at the University of Delaware The talk is free and open to the public. Please join us.
