'Imi Na'auao Lecture Series: Building a Living Ahupua'a

Ke'eaumoku Kapu, a cultural practitioner from aui, will be discussing the strategies he used in building a living ahupua'a (land district) from Mauna Wahine (mauka) to Lahaina shores (makai) in the Lahaina district of Maui.
The lecture will discuss the kuleana involved in ancient Hawaiian tasks systems such as creating and maintaining a lo'i kalo (taro patch), building a halau wa'a (canoe house), and malama i na wahi pana (preserving sacred sites). He will also discuss his project for developing a school for Hawaiian cultural learning.
In sum, all the strategies in building and sustaining the ahupua'a will be covered.
Two back-to-back sessions on building the ahupua'a will be conducted. Everyone interested in learning more about the Hawaiian culture are encouraged to attend either session.
