BOSO (Philippines, 2005) is a smart film about a voyeuristic caretaker at a boarding house. Jake, the caretaker, discovers while killing rats in the rafters that each room has a hole perfect for peeping. At first resistant, Jake succumbs to the curiousity of watching others from above. Jake soon feels like a god because of his ability to see all.
His life changes when Cecilia and her new husband move in. Jake falls in love with Cecilia, but an unfortunate incident disrupts everything.
BOSO is an accurate representation of the independent age in Southeast Asian film. It's fresh, new, and unlike anything else in Philippine cinema.
