Pacific-Asia Lecture

March 16, 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Saunders 704F

"Global Capital and Local Ownership in the Solomon Islands Forestry Industry," by Tarcisius Tara Kabutaulaka.

We are constantly being reminded of how global forms and processes have reached even the remotest corners of the world. The more local communities attempt to resist globalization, the more they engage with it. Dr Kabutaulaka will discuss interactions between the global and the local by examining natural resource development, with a focus on the Solomon Islands forestry industry.

Dr Kabutaulaka is from the Weather Coast of the island of Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands. He is a research fellow at the East-West Center's Pacific Islands Development Program.

The lecture is the second in a series sponsored by the Pacific Islands, East Asia, and Southeast Asia National Resource Centers at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Joining the National Resource Centers as sponsors for this lecture at the EWC Pacific Islands Development Program and the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council.
