Mesothelioma: It's Not Just From Asbestos

March 14, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Manoa Campus, Manoa Campus, Hamilton Library, Rm. 301

**Refreshments Served, Doors Open 3:15 p.m.**

Dr. Michele Carbone is the world's foremost researcher of mesothelioma, a type of cancer traditionally linked to asbestos exposure. Dr. Carbone has shown that genetics and a polio vaccine, widely distributed in the mid-twentieth century, may contribute more than asbestos to contraction of the disease.

A collaborative article, just published in Nature Reviews, reports on Dr. Carbone’s work with the Turkish government to address an unprecedented epidemic, in which over 50 percent of deaths in three small villages were attributed to mesothelioma. Please join us to hear more from this accomplished colleague about this most relevant and fascinating research.
