Great Kings at Mendes, Egypt
Professor Donald Redford
Penn State University
"The ongoing excavations at the site of Mendes, Lower Egypt, have thrown up new evidence regarding the activity of the Pharaohs during the empire period of the New Kingdom. The temple of the ram-god was a majestic structure erected by several kings including Thutmose III, Ramesses the great and Amasis, as a fitting memorial to this fascinating deity and his theology. Politically Mendes is now being seen as a town and community deeply involved in governance: the city provided a branch of the royal family of the 20th Dynasty, and was the place of origin of the 21st, 29th and 30th Dynasties. The new evidence will be reviewed in this talk."

A Tale of Two Tombs: The Work of the ATP Theban Tomb Survey in the Valley of the Nobles, Egypt
Dr. Susan Redford
Penn State University
Summary: The burial ground of ancient Thebes on the West Bank of the Nile at Luxor reveals a wealth of information on the society, art and religious beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. Two major tombs there, currently under investigation by Akhenaten Temple Project's Theban Tomb Survey, cast further light specifically on the early years of the Amarna period. This talk will present the lastest findings by the Tomb Survey over the past few field campaigns.
