Sawai Koto Kai Hawai'i Concert

Members of the Sawai Koto Kai Hawai'i will be joined by koto masters Kazue Sawai, Hikaru Sawai, members of the Sawai Koto Academy of Tokyo, and students of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in a concert of contemporary works for 13-string and 17-string koto by the late Tadao Sawai.
Sawai Koto Kai Hawai'i was established in 1986 as the first overseas branch of the Sawai Soukyoku-in (Sawai Koto Academy) founded in Tokyo, Japan, by the late Tadao Sawai and his wife Kazue.
Sawai Koto Kai Hawai`i is dedicated to the study and performance of soukyoku (Japanese koto music). The members of are made up of students from various styles and schools of koto. In addition to studying the works of Tadao Sawai, classic and contemporary works by many other composers are also studied.
