Advances in Bioscience Education (ABE) Summer Workshop
June 14, 8:30am - 5:00pmLeeward Campus, MS-108
This is the third Annual Workshop offered by Advances in Bioscience Education (ABE). It is a three-week-long workshop and offers stimulating educational activities with hands-on laboratory experiences and expert lectures. Activities include basic molecular techniques (DNA, RNA, Protein isolation and analysis), T-DNA mapping, immunodetection of proteins via fluorescence and electron microscopy. Participants include community college faculty and their students and involves four laboratories in two campuses, LCC and UH Manoa.
ABE is a part of the education and outreach activities of a NSF-funded research grant entitled "Functional Genomics of the Protein Disulfide Isomerase (PDI) Family in Plants." The overall goal of the workshop is to strengthen biotech and biology education by offering exciting learning opportunities for students and faculty at small colleges which often lack established research programs in the field of molecular biology.
