"The Long History of Civil Rights in America". Drs. James and Lois Horton will speak on the historical background of the Modern Civil Rights Movement in America, including the civil rights struggles of free blacks in the North before the Civil War, through the post-war period, and as the system of Jim Crow was established in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They will also discuss the rise of the mid-20th century Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. The Hortons will speak for approximately 45 minutes and then answer questions from the audience.
