David Kahane: Teaching in the Life of a Great University
February 20, 12:00pm - 1:30pmManoa Campus, East-West Center, Burns Hall 4005
When research universities set their sights on “excellence” they are typically thinking of research productivity, research stars, and research grants. Kahane’s talk offers a different story about university excellence, one that recovers the deep curiosity and collaboration that are at the heart of teaching and learning, and places these at the core of what we do. He provides a sense not only of the pathologies of conventional discourses of academic excellence, but of the challenging forms of politics and community entailed by a real commitment to learning.
