March 19, 3:30pm - 4:30pmManoa Campus, Hamilton Library 301
Lecture presentation by Monique Chyba, Professor of Mathematics.
Mathematics is beautiful. During this lecture, we will discover not only that mathematics is capable of an artistic excellence as great as that of any music or art but that beauty is central to what mathematics is.
Mathematics is everywhere. Mathematics is undersea or far away in the universe, nature displays a mathematical behavior.
Through several applications in engineering, science and biology we will see that mathematics is critical in the advancement of science and our understanding of the world.
In three words: Mathematics is here. It belongs to our world, and that is why it is so fascinating.
