April 2, 12:00pm - 1:15pmManoa Campus, Center for Korean Studies Auditorium
Determinants and Dynamics of Micronesian Emigration: A Discussion, by Ben Graham, Management and Development Consultant and Researcher, Republic of the Marshall Islands.
This discussion of Micronesian emigration will be guided by several key questions: What do we know, in general, about the determinants of international migration? What is the scope and scale of Micronesian emigration, and how has this changed over time? What are the key factors driving Micronesians to leave their islands? What social, economic, and other issues in the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands help us better understand the emigration phenomenon?
Ben Graham is from the Marshall Islands and works as an independent consultant and researcher. His areas of interest include management, governance, economic development, finance, and tourism. Prior to consulting, he worked for the Government of the Marshall Islands (in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Resources and Development), the Marshall Islands Visitors Authority, and the US Census Bureau. Graham serves on the boards of several public and private organizations and works closely with a number of nonprofits and civil society groups. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Hawai`i at Manoa and an MBA from Georgetown University.
