Invisible Children is a media-based non-profit organization that documents the stories of children affected by conflict and injustice to inspire a new generation of leaders grounded in ideals, fueled by knowledge, and driven by action for effective change.
In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them—a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.
After returning to the States, they created the documentary Invisible Children: Rough Cut, a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda's night commuters and child soldiers.
The film is now being toured around the country by college aged students who are interning for the Invisible Children Organization. They screen the 50 minute (they also have shorter versions) documentary to high schools and colleges around the country. Over the past year, they have shown the film to more than 1 million Americans.
