"Building" Resilience to Face Global Change? The Green Impact on Tourism

May 1, 5:00pm - 6:30pm
Manoa Campus, Room 227, George Hall

“Reshaping the Nature of Tourism: External Pressures, Internal Choices”

6th Annual Bill Lane Jr. Lecture on Sustainable Tourism

This joint lecture by reputed scholars Dr. Kathryn Janda (Senior Researcher: Social and technical dimensions of changing building practices, Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University, UK)and Dr. Victoria Edwards (School of Environmental Design, University of Portsmouth, UK) addresses the relationship between green initiatives and tourism. Our speakers will discuss how increasing pressures from “outside” the industry, particularly the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, will influence tourism’s shape and nature in the future. Revised approaches to tourism development and management will be presented with discussion on how they can and have improved tourism destinations.

Talks:

“Tourism in the Context of Global Change: Building Resilience” will be presented by Dr. Kathryn Janda.

“Green Tourism: Process Rather than Product” will be presented by Dr. Victoria Edwards
