Part of the UH Manoa Outreach College Sakamaki Extraordinary Lectures Series, this FREE lecture is by John Wiltshire, acting director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Undersea Research Center for Hawai'i and the Western Pacific and chair of the UH Manoa Department of Ocean and Resource Engineering.
With two deep diving submersibles, underwater robotics capabilities, several ocean going research vessels and a range of tools to operate on the sea floor, the University of Hawai'i is staking out a leadership position in the blossoming field of undersea technology.
This talk will look at some of the capabilities, some of the new discoveries and new directions this work is going. New technology has made the deep sea a new frontier. New discoveries are showing us a new world just beyond our shore.
