2008 Faculty Lecture Series

Victor Lubecke, Electrical Engineering Dept., presents “Through Wall Monitoring of Human Life Signs” as the final lecture in the Fall Faculty Lecture Series. Technology that can be used to unobtrusively detect and monitor the presence of human subjects from a distance and through barriers. Various technologies from passive millimeter-wave imaging to ultra wideband radar have demonstrated potential for identifying shapes, motion, and even materials and biological characteristics through various obstructions. Approaches for applications ranging from counter-terrorism to outpatient healthcare will be reviewed, with an emphasis on detection and monitoring of human cardiopulmonary activity.
