Lingle To Extinguish Hawaiians?
December 10, 1:30pm - 2:45pmMaui Campus, Ka Lama 103
On January 31, 2008, the Hawai'i Supreme Court, in The Office of Hawaiian Affairs v. Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawai'i, ruled in a UNANIMOUS decision that the State of Hawai'i cannot sell Hawai'i's ceded lands until the unrelinquished rights of Native Hawaiians are resolved.
The Lingle administration plans to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court that Native Hawaiians do not have an ownership claim to land that belonged to the Hawaiian monarchy prior to the
1893 overthrow.
Kaleikoa Kaʻeo will give historical and contemporary perspectives.
