Set in 1833 Ireland, the play shows the personal and cultural effects of the loss of the Irish language. This play has strong parallels to Hawai‘i in the late 19th century. The author, Brian Friel, won the Tony and Drama Desk Awards of 1992 for Best New Play for "Dancing at Lughnasa."
