Memorial Gathering for Epeli Hau`ofa
January 23, 4:00pm - 6:00pmManoa Campus, EWC Hale Halawai
Renowned and influential Pacific Islander leader, author, mentor, poet, storyteller, scholar and friend to many of us, Epeli Hau`ofa, passed away on 11 January 2009.
The UHM Center for Pacific Islands Studies, in collaboration with the Pacific Islands Development Program at the East-West Center, is organizing a memorial gathering of friends, colleagues, students, and others who have been touched by Epeli's work. This is to give people the opportunity to reflect on, and celebrate Epeli's life and work.
We invite you to join us at the EWC Hale Halawai. Come with stories about your interactions with Epeli, and favorite excepts of his work to read and share with others. This will be an informal gathering, and you are welcome to sing if you wish, or simply "tok stori" about a man who has single-handedly changed the course of Pacific Studies.
Please, bring a pupu/snack and drinks. Kava will be provided.
