Manoa Campus, Queen Lili`uokalani Center for Student Services Room 411

The Pacific Region chapter of Alpha Lambda, was formally established at the Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) national meeting in June 2008 in Rockville, MD. With the formation of the Pacific Region chapter, Chrystie Naeole is current chapter president and a doctoral candidate in Cell and Molecular Biology at UH Mānoa.

Graduate Women in Science was established in 1921 and is dedicated to promoting education and professional roles for women in science. The Pacific Region chapter will celebrate one year of activities with a public lecture on “Return to Pono: Challenging the Values of Modern Science.” This illustrated lecture will be presented by former national GWIS President and 1991 Distinguished Alumni from the University of Hawai`i, Dr. Harriet H. Natsuyama.

Membership in Pacific Region chapter of Alpha Lambda is open to women who hold graduate degrees in scientific disciplines and who reside in Hawai`i, Pacific Rim areas and Alaska. The chapter welcomes all interested in joining us for Dr. Natsuyama’s lecture and learning more about Graduate Women in Science on January 27th.

The celebration and lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2009 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on the University of Hawai`i Mānoa campus at Queen Lili`uokalani Center for Student Services Room 411.
