Hawai'i Bibliovision -- Feb. 3, Tues., 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. -- features Part 2 of a presentation by well-known humanitarian, Dr. Jess Ghannam.
Dr. Ghannam received his degrees in psychology from the University of Michigan and the University of California at Berkeley. Currently, he is clinical professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, as well as the chief of medical psychology at the Mount Zion Medical Center at UCSF. In addition, he directs the Geriatric Mental Health Clinic at the UCSF Center on Aging.
Professor Ghannam has numerous publications in well-regarded professional journals on a wide-range of subjects in psychology and psychiatry. He has studied in-depth such issues as trauma, anxiety, person schemas and the social and psychological structure of disaster.
Since the early 1990's, Dr. Ghannam has worked extensively in the field of medical development in Palestine by teaching, conducting research on post-traumatic stress disorder, and developing community health centers and micro-clinics throughout Gaza and the West Bank.
This episode of Hawai'i Bibliovision features Dr. Ghannam’s presentation on the highly respected and influential work of literary critic, Professor Edward Said, as a means of understanding the U.S. media representation of the Middle East conflict.
Hawai'i Bibliovision is sponsored by the UH Manoa, English Department. Now in its fourth year, the program airs the first Tuesday of every month on Olelo 55, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
