Melding the raw energy and charisma of hiphop and the controlled formality of ballet, Rubberbandance strives to create something new.
Artistic director Victor Quijada grew up dancing hiphop (his nickname was Rubberband) but trained and danced ballet professionally. The marriage of the two forms isn’t a cheap gimmick to get gasps and exclamations of approval.
Quijada employs a disciplined eye to insure the movement transitions seamlessly between the two dance forms revealing new possibilities.
