Pacific Maritime Archeology and History Symposium

The University of Hawaiʻi Marine Option Program proudly announces the 20th Annual Symposium on the Maritime Archaeology and History of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, Feb. 21-22, 2009.

This year’s symposium will be held at the NOAA Hawaiʻi Kai Conference Facility on the island of Oʻahu and is Co-sponsored by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Marine Option Program (MOP), the Maritime Archaeology and History of the Hawaiian Islands Foundation (MAHHI), and NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. 

The Pacific
This year's conference is focused on inclusion and welcomes submissions from the broad field of Maritime Archaeology and History as it intersects with the Pacific, especially in relation to seafaring, commercial or military activity, maritime museums, maritime law, as well as the historic maritime activity of cultures living or found in or near the Pacific. 

Abstracts
Abstracts and contact information should be submitted by email as an MS Word attachment to Don Froning at froning@mahhi.org. Deadline: December 15th. Limit: 300 words. Please indicate if you would like to give an oral or poster presentation. Accommodations for PC-based PowerPoint presentations will be made. Every effort will be made to facilitate other media requests. Submitters of selected abstracts will be notified by December 20th. Presenters must register.

Daily Continental Breakfast will be provided. Lunch will be no-host; there are many great restaurants nearby. A no-host social will be held Saturday night; location TBA.

The conference venue is located on the corner of Keahole St. and Kalaniana‘ole Highway in the Hawai‘i Kai Executive Plaza office complex on the third floor. Roy's Restaurant is in this same building, and the elevator is behind Central Pacific Bank, off the internal courtyard. Ample free parking is available around the building. 6600 Kalaniana‘ole Hwy #300, Honolulu, HI 96825.
