Ka Nalu: Towards a Hawaiian National Consciousness
February 28, 8:00am - 4:00pmManoa Campus, Hawaii Imin International Conference Center
The Hawaiian Society of Law and Politics will be hosting its 3rd biennial symposium on Sat., Feb. 28, 2009 at the Hawai'i Imin International Conference Center on the grounds of the University of Hawaii at Mānoa (1777 East-West Road).
The title of the symposium is Ka Nalu: Towards a Hawaiian National Consciousness. The conference will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and attendance is free to all UH students and the public.
Registration is required for all attendees as seating is limited. Interested participants may register for the conference by sending an e-mail to the Society at hslp@hawaii.edu.
The conference title reflects two subject matters: it pays tribute and honors the life of the late Dr. Kanalu Young, former faculty advisor of the Hawaiian Society of Law and Politics, for his contributions and continued academic dedication toward the goals of the Society.
Secondly, the symposium name acknowledges another "wave" of scholarship at the University of Hawaii. Fall 2009 witnessed three Society members graduate with their doctors of philosophy: Dr. Kamana Beamer (geography), Dr. Sydney Iaukea (political science) and Dr. Keanu Sai (political science).
Sponsored in part by a grant from the UH Student Activity and Program Fee Board (SAPFB)
