The National Digital Newspaper Program
May 8, 12:00pm - 1:00pmManoa Campus, Hamilton Library Room 301
A lecture by Deborah Thomas, Library of Congress. "The National Digital Newspaper Program" (NDNP) is a partnership between the NEH and the Library of Congress to provide enhanced access to United States newspapers.
Ultimately, over a period of approximately 20 years, NDNP will create a national, digital resource of historically significant newspapers from all the states and U.S. territories published between 1836 and 1922. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at the Library of Congress (LC) and be freely accessible via the Internet.
The University of Hawaii Hamilton Library received a National Endowment for the Humanities digital grant for 2008-2010 to digitize newspapers published between 1880-1922.
Deborah Thomas is the program coordinator for the National Digital Newspaper Program at the Library of Congress, and is a member of the Serials and Government Publications Division. Deborah joined the LC in 1998 and participated in the National Digital Library Program, converting historical collections for the Web site American Memory and coordinating other digital conversion projects for the Library. She joined NDNP in 2005.
