August 27, 12:00pm - 1:00pmManoa Campus, Biomedical Sciences Building, Room D207
Dr. Alan Katz will present "Epidemiology and Clinical Presentation of Leptospirosis in Hawaii, 1999-2008."
Leptospirosis is an illness with protean manifestations and worldwide distribution. It has been classified as a re-emerging zoonosis by the World Health Organization. From 1974 through 1994, Hawaii consistently had the highest reported annual incidence rate in the United States. Although leptospirosis was deleted from the list of nationally notifiable diseases in 1995, cases still remain reportable in Hawaii. This presentation will describe the epidemiologic characterization and clinical presentation of laboratory-confirmed cases in Hawaii related to exposures within the state during a 10-year period: 1999-2008.
