Guam Military Buildup Controversy at Law School

The Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law at the William S. Richardson School of Law is proud to present its monthly “Maoli Thursday†discussion entitled “The Guam Military Buildup: Examining Potential Impacts on Culture, Environment, the Economy and the Larger Community,†featuring keynote speaker the Honorable Benjamin “B.J.†Cruz, Vice Speaker of Legislature of Guam and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Guam, on Thursday April 1, 2010 (Friday April 2nd Guam time).
He will be joined by Wendy Wiltse of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9. Vice Speaker Cruz will provide an overview of the issues raised by the hotly contested Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Guam Military Buildup, including projected effects on Guam’s reefs, water resources, and indigenous culture. This Maoli Thursday event will be moderated by its organizers, William S. Richardson School of Law students, Christopher Odoca and Ana Won Pat-Borja, and Zoology Ph.D. candidate, Austin J. Shelton, III.
This event will be held at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law’s Moot Court Room on April 1, 2010 from 12:45-1:55 pm Hawaii Standard Time. It will be streamed live online on April 2 from 8:45-9:55 am Guam time at www.KaHuliAo.com for those unable to attend the event in person. The event is free and open to the public.
