Fred Ho's performance of "Tomorrow is Now: Solo Saxophone and the Revolutionary Imagination."
Fred Ho, Chinese American virtuoso baritone saxophonist and celebrated composer-author, performs a solo concert and talk in a rare appearance in Hawaii.
To international acclaim, Fred Ho’s music is a special mix of Afro-Asian “jazz†inspirations, spiked with searing revolutionary ideas and imagination.
Ho’s awards and numerous, including two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships (in Opera/Musical-Theater and Jazz Composition); three New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships (in Music Composition); six Rockefeller Foundation awards; and he is the 2009-2010 Harvard Arts Medalist (only 16 awards have been given in Harvard’s 400 year history) as well as the 2010 Letter of Distinction Award recipient (joining Aaron Copland, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, John Cage, among others). eyond music, he was the first recipient of the Urban Dragons: Black and Latino Masters of the Chinese Martial Arts award, recognized as a Martial Arts Pioneer for his innovations that incorporate martial arts in multicultural theater.
