Japanese Art Tapestry Festa in Hawai'i

See a remarkable collection of Japanese contemporary and traditional art assembled by the Japanese nonprofit Heart Art Communication at:

Windward Community College Galley 'Iolani,

July 18 to Aug 16, Monday to Friday, from 1-5 p.m.

Kapi'olani Community College Lama Library,

July 19 to Aug 17, Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Called the "Japanese Art Tapestry Festa in Hawai'i," the exhibit features a collection of Sumi (black ink) paintings, calligraphy, western painting, sculpture, craft and print artwork from more than 250 artists presented on tapestries. With about 400 contemporary and traditional art to display, the collection has been divided between Windward and Kapi'olani Community Colleges. Participating artists were selected through art associations and organizations throughout Japan, with each artist representing works from their special art genre.

Heart Art Communication's founders believe that these exhibitions will act as a bridge in respecting and understanding each other's culture. With a theme of cultural exchange, the exhibition has been held around the world in major cities including New York, Paris, Rome, Rothenberg, Mexico City, Seoul, Beijing, Vienna, Sofia, Barcelona, Moscow, Athens and Budapest. Japanese Art Tapestry Festa is co-sponsored by the University of Hawai'i Community Colleges, Windward CC and Kapi'olani CC.
