50 Years of Japanese Court Music and Dance in Hawai‘i
The University of Hawai‘i Mānoa Music Department and the Hawai‘i Gagaku Society will celebrate their 50th anniversary of teaching Japanese court music and dance in Hawai‘i.
UH Gagaku alumni join UH in hosting members from Nihon Gagakukai (Japan Gagaku Society) of Tokyo, in a joint concert of gagaku music and dance.
Gagaku, Japanese court music, is one of the world’s oldest music traditions, and can boast of having a considerable repertoire that consists of ancient indigenous Japanese music and dance together with music and dance pieces introduced to the Imperial Japanese court from China and Korea some 1400 years ago.
