Please join us at the Fall 2011 Women's Studies Colloquium for an exciting presentation by Judge Karen Radius, Founding Judge of Hawaii’s Girls Court Program, on Friday September 9th in Saunders Hall 637 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm

Nationally arrests and referrals of juvenile offenders to Family Courts are falling dramatically for boys, but girls’ arrests and referrals now make up nearly 30% nationally and 37 to 41% of referrals in Hawaii.

Hawaii’s Girls Court is one of the first of its kind in the nation addressing girls and their paths to delinquency with open court hearings, gender specific activities and trauma informed care for the girls and their families.

Judge Radius’ talk, titled "She’s Too Good to Lose—The Female Juvenile Offender in Hawaii," will engage questions such as: What is the profile of the juvenile female referred to Family Court? What has Family Court and Girls Court been doing differently to address the needs of teenage girls entering the juvenile justice system?
