Topic: "Malaysia: Are Gargoyles Good for Business?"
Speaker: Dr. Dawn Morais Webster

Senior Advisor, Olomana Loomis ISC

Malaysia promotes itself as a cosmopolitan paradise of warm, laid-back people waiting to welcome visitors to its beautiful shores. However, Malaysians of all races who recently gathered for BERSIH 3 in what was to be a peaceful rally to call for clean (bersih) elections were met with tear gas and water cannons by the police. Is the “One Malaysia: Truly Asia” touted by the Malaysian government fact, fiction, or something in between? For businesspeople, how true is the claim that the "time is now, the place is Malaysia"? Join us as Dr. Webster shares more of her insights.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Dawn Morais Webster held communications management positions at Esso and at IBM in Malaysia and in Hong Kong. She was also the Creative Director of one of Malaysia’s leading communications firms. In Singapore, she taught marketing at Nanyang Technological University and ran her own consulting business.

As CEO of Loomis-ISC, Dr. Webster spent nearly eight years turning the thirty year old agency into an integrated services and issue-advocacy firm. The agency was very much a part of the struggle to get civil unions passed in Hawaii in 2010. She was personally involved in helping to get the Sustainable Business Corporation (B-Corp) Act passed in 2011. Loomis-ISC pays special attention to the mission of nonprofits like the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association. Through these efforts, Loomis-ISC won the BBB Torch Award for Trust, Performance and Integrity in 2010.

Her work has been published in a number of places including Fugue (University of Idaho), The Red Wheelbarrow (University of St. Andrews, Scotland), The Merton Seasonal (Bellarmine University, Kentucky), and Biography (University of Hawaii at Manoa). In addition, she has had several OpEds on local issues published in Hawaii papers.

She also maintains a blog on faith, culture and politics at www.freecatholic808.com.
