In the Navel of the Sea (1998) - Dir. Marilou Diaz-Abaya, 116 mins.

Pepito grows up in a remote fishing village in the Philippines, learning the trade of his mother, a midwife, a job given from generation to generation. While Pepito struggles to find his way with a profession meant mainly for women, his mother Rosa, who is a widow, becomes pregnant and fears the shame the pregnancy would bring.

Professor Pia Arboleda (IPLL) introduces the film and leads Q&A.
