Chung Haing Lee, piano
February 22, 7:30pm - 9:30pmMānoa Campus, Orvis Auditorium
Dr. Chung Haing Lee, a native of South Korea, initially came to the United States in 1968, where he studied piano on full scholarship at the Cornish School of Music in Seattle, Washington under Willard Schultz. Further scholarships and fellowships followed, first at the U. of Washington, studying with Randolph Hokanson, then Boston University, for his masters degree, and eventually to the U. of North Texas, where in 1990 he completed a doctorate in piano performance, studying with Joseph Banowetz.
In 1978, Dr. Chung was invited to return to Korea to chair the newly established piano department at Keimyung University in Daegu.
Dr. Lee now lives in Honolulu with his wife, Deborah, also a pianist. This evening’s performance is a way of formally introducing Dr. Lee to the Honolulu community, where in a short time he has already made many friends and hopes for further friendships and collaboration.
Dr. Lee's program will include:
- Fantasie, Op. 116, Brahms
- Impromptu, Op. 142, Schubert
- Sonata Op. 27, No.2 in C-sharp Minor (Moonlight), Beethoven
- Four Ballades, Chopin
