Oceania Rising!

March 1, 5:00pm - 7:30pm
Mānoa Campus, KamakakÅ«okalani Center for Hawaiian Studies

OCEANIA RISING! is an event organized by University of Hawaiʻi students in partnership with community members in remembrance of the 59th Anniversary of the "Bravo" nuclear test in Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Marshallese nuclear survivors will share their stories about the effects of the 67 U.S. nuclear tests in the Marshall Islands.

Kānaka Maoli, Chamorro, Okinawan, Marshallese, Belauan, Tongan, and other students from the great Moananuiākea (the Pacific Ocean) will also share their own peoples' histories of activism for social justice and peace and honor their shared history of solidarity through art, poetry, film, music, and testimonials. The event will bridge cultural and historical differences and strengthen solidarity between the peoples of Oceania. It is also a launch event for the Oceania Rising student organization at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The event is free and open to the public.
