UH Manoa Nursing presents Frances A. Matsuda Visiting Scholar in Women's Health.

Diane Spatz, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN Professor of Perinatal Nursing & the Helen M. Shearer Professor of Nutrition, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing

As a clinician educator, Dr. Spatz translates research into clinical practice every day! Her area of scholarship is human milk and breastfeeding in the most vulnerable families. Dr. Spatz will share reflections on her career as a nurse scientist, clinician, and educator and the impact of her work on the lives of mothers and their children.

Dr. Spatz is a Professor of Perinatal Nursing & Nutrition at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing where she holds a joint appointment as a nurse researcher with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Recognized nationally and internationally for her work surrounding the use of human milk and breastfeeding in vulnerable infants, she is Chair of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) Expert Panel on Breastfeeding and the AAN representative to the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee. She is a recipient of the Sigma Theta Tau International Research Utilization Award and the University of Pennsylvania Nursing Dean’s Award for Exemplary Professional Practice. Currently, Dr. Spatz is a faculty for the Sigma Theta Tau and Johnson & Johnson Maternal Child Leadership Academy.

The Frances A. Matsuda Endowment in Women’s Health, UH Mānoa Nursing Dr. Frances A. Matsuda Sano established this endowment at UH Mānoa Nursing to develop knowledge and research to improve women’s health, especially in the Pacific Basin. Funding supports the Frances A. Matsuda Chair in Women’s Health, held by Dr. Maureen Shannon, PhD, CNM, FNP, and visiting scholars.

Presentation followed by discussion and reception.
