Berlin, Symphony of a Great City - Dir. Walter Ruttmann, 1924, 65 mins.

An experimental film chronicling a day in Berlin, starting with a sleepy, peaceful, slow morning and continuing into the hustle and bustle of the day, into the late evening.

An early example of the city symphony film genre, which could also count Sheeler and Strand's Manhatta (1921) and the collaboratively produced People on Sunday (1930).

Screened in German with English sub-titles. Screened in conjunction with German 320 - History of German Cinema taught by Prof. Christina Gerhardt.
