Book launch, demonstrations, activities, displays for new publication in Hawai'inuiākea series. ʻIke Ulana Lau Hala: The Vitality and Vibrancy of Lau Hala Weaving Traditions in Hawaiʻi is first collection of diverse topics on lau hala: the Hawaiian cultural heritage of lau hala; the botany of the hala tree and threats to its survival; historic images from the Bishop Museum archives; the Niʻihau voice of a master hat weaver’s daughter; lau hala in ʻōlelo noʻeau; a conversation with the master craftsman of lei hala; a learner’s perspective; and the mele and poetry of lau hala. Co-published by Hawai'inuiākea and U.H. Press.
