Inside the Ethnic Studies Studio...Featuring Aloha Hype Records

This presentation will feature artists from the new Hawai‘i-based music label, Aloha Hype Records. The recording artists will talk about their inspirations, creative processes, and hip hop in Hawai‘i and beyond. The artists will include the following:

Osnizzle was born and raised in Aliamanu. He is a producer/rapper/DJ/videographer and currently a resident DJ at Sky and District nightclubs. He is also part owner of Redefined Media which specializes in music, video, and photo services and part owner of Aloha Hype Records.

Ya Boy SLiKK was born in Seattle and raised in Kalihi – he grew up in Mayor Wright Homes. He is a rapper/singer/entrepreneur and co-founder of O.T.E. ("Our Turn Entertainment"). A proud father of one and a former UH Warrior athlete, SLiKK uses music to pave positive paths for youth.

J-SHiU was born and raised in Kaimuki. He is a rapper/promoter/actor/entrepreneur and co-founder of OTE Entertainment. J-SHiU grew up broke and uses his past struggles in his work to create more opportunities for his communities.

Willy G was born and raised in Ewa Beach. He is a Rapper/Actor/Dream Chaser. He is the founder of “We Got We,” a group of individuals who came from nothing who are now pursuing their dreams and trying to turn them into reality.

Welo aka El Chappie was born and raised in Honolulu. At a young age, he started writing short stories, through which he could share what others were either blind to or afraid to speak on. From there, he went to poetry that grew into writing his own “raps.” He has spent the last four years in San Diego, CA as an indie artist, doing collaborations local artists and hosting club events. He recently took part in the Get Money, Stop Hatin’ Tour (in Indianapolis, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania).

A$AP Bobby is a producer/engineer/studio and record label owner. Originally from O‘ahu, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to work at Tree Sound Studios and returned to O‘ahu to help build a music empire that the islands have never seen before. He also worked for four years with the world famous music producer David Tickle.
