Chinese Calligraphy for Beginners
September 5, 2018 - November 7, 2018
Mānoa Campus, Moore Hall 112
Sep 5-Nov 7, 2018 • Wed • 6:00-8:00pm • 10 mtgs
You will learn about the structure and basic strokes of Chinese characters in calligraphy writing, with a focus on the practice of frequently-used Chinese characters so that you get to recognize and identify Chinese characters that have been learned. We will also try some simple use of calligraphic art in everyday life such as for household decoration and artwork. For instance, we will practice writing antithetical couplets and the character fu (meaning ‘blessing’), and making your own
Chinese paper fan.
Instructor: Zhou Ruifang is currently a graduate student specializing in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language at the Beijing Foreign Studies University, China. She has taught at the high school level and won prizes for her work. She loves calligraphy and has received professional training in calligraphy since she was 7. She sees Chinese calligraphy as "Tai Chi on paper" and continues to discover pleasure in practicing it!
